idc. the natural hair movement was created for people with type 4 hair.
Explain to me why you would say that?
Not even trying to argue….
because type 3 hair was always glorified. if you had type 3 hair, you had “good hair”. it has always been people with type 4 hair, inside and outside the black community, being pressured to straighten their hair. we were the main ones having to transition from perms and deal with the most hate, so i think we have the right to be upset that women with loose curls are seen as the face of the natural hair movement and are STILL getting glorified.
Wow … that’s a really interesting argument
Really?? Think of the Jerry curl trend of the 70’s/80’s (being before the natural hair care wave). That illustrates this point perfectly. That was 4c hair’s attempt to fit in with the wet and wavy look that we still see in all “natural” looking weaves. That was the acceptable form of black hair that even white artists copied at the time. Now we see white pop stars jacking dreads, Bantu knots, twist outs, and cornrows, but I digress. White folks ain’t tryna wear tight cotton-y fros. You don’t see nappy hair that you CAN’T run your fingers through in advertisements. Don’t be blind to the point here. Even in our own communities we know what “good” vs. “bad” hair is defined as. Loose curly hair has never been shamed as much as picky thick hair.
